Video installation that uses wind as an inspiration to navigate the viewer through media and time. This work illustrates how the wind is used as a tool to navigate through different time periods of the city of Rotterdam via audiovisual media. Archive footage is used in combination with a soundtrack that is specifically composed for this installation.
Archive video material is collected through online resources, the main resource is the ‘open images’ online database. Open Images is an open media platform that offers online access to audiovisual archive material to stimulate creative reuse.
This video material forms the basis to create new and different video sequences than what the videos were originally meant for. During the editing of the images a new soundtrack is created with electronic instruments and various software specifically according to each sequence. The soundtrack is created from the point of view of supporting archive footage from the past with a contemporary aproach and to maintain a balance between sound and image.
The entire video sequence is made of different videos of specific time periods of the city of Rotterdam and this starts with a video that visualizes the history of the Wilhelminapier, this is the starting point of the whole sequence, that will lead to different places in Rotterdam during different time periods.
